The return leg of the loop should be shorter, but the snow and wind picks up even more and progress is hard. The trail is barely visible, with plenty of deep, wet snow that makes walking difficult. Soon, you come upon some high-voltage power lines at a place where they cross the trail. Looking overhead, they quickly disappear into swirling snow. A service road runs below them, with a cleared swath. On the map, it seems that the power lines also intersect with paved roads a short way down on either side. Even if it’s a longer walk in distance, the better surface should more than make up for it. Do you follow the power lines left, or right?
