You set off on the Green Lake Trail. The low-lying area in the valley turns out to be chilly but the movement keeps you warm and comfortable. There are a lot of birch and willow trees in this part of the woods. As you walk on, the sky darkens somewhat and scattered flurries begin falling. By the time you reach the marshes, there’s consistent snowfall, which accumulates atop the clumps of reeds and tall grass.
You pass the dam and the trail follows the curve of the lakeshore until you reach the picnic grove, snack bar, and beach area, which are completely deserted and still except for howling gusts of wind. You look out over the frozen surface of the lake. With such an open expanse, you can tell that visibility is dropping, and decide to head back after eating a snack at the snack bar’s seating area.
