Where to hike?

Location: Inside the Cabin

You slept well, a bit too well, actually, a bit past when you had planned to wake up. Regardless, you’re excited to head out on a hike. It seems to be a clear day, and the weather forecast only predicts brief, light flurries, if that. You pack some snacks and water, and pick a shorter trail off the informative state park map and brochure.

There’s the Green Lake Trail, which goes through the main valley of the park, first alongside the creek, and then through a marshy area below the dam that holds the lake in, which was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934. At the lake, there’s a beach and snack bar, probably closed for the winter. The other option is the English House Trail. It hugs the boundary line of the state park property, passing through a desolate tract of pine trees once used for timbering, but now left alone. It leads to the historic English House, a preserved colonial-era structure.

Seeing a marshy area in the winter would be nice. You take the Green Lake Trail.

You find colonial-era architecture very interesting. You take the English House Trail.
